Bangalore under attack!

The IT capital of India has been hit by low intensity blasts, which according to different sources are either seven or eight in number.

Commenting on the attack, Bangalore Commissioner of Police Shankar Bidari told:

In all these cases they have created the blast using timer devices… Explosives have also been used, in quantity equal to one or two grenades. [HT]

Eye witness accounts hint that the blasts are of very low intensity:

It sounded like a cracker. The traffic was blocked, everyone was running around. It was not a severe blast. [HT]

At least, 2 are reported dead and 6 have been injured as of now. No one has taken responsibility for the blasts until now, varying sources suspect HuJI, LeT and SIMI

Interestingly, this blast adds another to the list of blasts on Friday.

List of blasts on Friday:

  • March 12, 1993: Mumbai bombings were a series of thirteen bomb explosions that took place in Mumbai). The single-day attacks resulted in up to 250 civilian fatalities and 700 injuries.
  • April 14, 2006: Twin blasts took place in Delhi’s Jama Masjid injuring at least 13 people on Friday evening at around 1730 hrs IST.
  • September 8, 2006: 31 killed, 297 injured in Friday’s twin bomb blast in Malegaon.
  • November 23, 2007: Multiple blasts in Faizabad, Varanasi, Lucknow within five minutes of each other killing at least 12 people in Uttar Pradesh.
  • May 18, 2007: Eleven people were killed and more than 50 others injured in a bomb explosion inside Mecca Mosque located near the historic Charminar in Hyderabad.

Update (July 25th, 7:34 IST) :

The blasts have hit the equity markets, with the index closing 502.70 points down at 14,274.94 points as soon as the news of the blasts spread.
