Religious opposition to the nuclear deal

Samajwadi Party MP, Munawwar Hasan from Muzaffarnagar is going to oppose the nuclear deal, even though his party has decided to back the Government, not because he perceives the nuclear deal is not in the interest of the nation, but because he finds America anit-muslim!

I am opposing the nuclear deal with the Americans. America is against the interests of Muslims. Muslims hate Americans. If this deal goes through, then Americans will make a lot of money.[Rediff]

Quite obviously he forgets India is supposedly a secular country and he needs to look at what the deal can do for the country, not impose his religious love-hate convictions.

He epitomizes his knowledge about the deal with these words wisdom:

They will use the money to make bombs and then bomb Muslims with it. We are not going to let that happen. We are against the Americans. We are not interested in the power part of the deal, we are opposing the fact that it’s a deal with the United States. [ibid]

It is very much obvious that he doesn’t know a thing about this deal. In other words, he wouldn’t have much to say about this if the deal was with some other nation. It is fine to oppose the deal by scrutinizing its positives and negatives, but to oppose the deal based on religious prejudice is absurd. It is time to put an end to this bigoted Ulema politics!

Postscript:

The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) however has hinted that it will back the UPA in spite of its reservations with the US. They reckon BJP as a greater danger than the nuke deal.
